There's More Where That Came From

Everychanging Trends

A little over a year ago I had a post discussing how country music seemed to have lacked the quality it used to.  As I look back at this post, I can see that I was being a bit biased, as I was comparing the music that I had grown up to as a kid, to the music of my pre-teen and teen years. Besides that, I also did notice that country music in the last year or so has begun to return to a more country/pop sound that was mainstream during the 1990’s, but with a twist. Mainstream Country in the mid to late 1990’s had a more adult contemporary type sound to it. Country music now seems to have more of an 80’s rock vibe to it with some dancy type beats added in. Whether this is good or bad is up to your opinion.

There are also some new trends happening on the pop chart this year as well. Electro-pop has become mainstream thanks to the likes of Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, and Katy Perry.  There also seems to be more 80’s like power pop happening. I guess this could be attributed to Micheal Jackson’s passing?

So as 2009 slowly comes to a close, what trends do you think are ahead for music, country and otherwise?

Should Taylor Swift Be Pop?

While doing my homework this past Thursday night, my sister came downstairs and turned the tv on to watch CSI, mostly because Taylor Swift was guest-starring. While watching I won’t say I thought Taylor was a great actor, but you gotta give the girl props; she’s 19, has already had two hit albums and looks like, with time, she could hold her own in acting.

Moving on, while I thought the episode was interesting, I was more fascinated by the remixed version of “You’re Not Sorry” that was played during the show. The remix was much more electropop compared to Swift’s usual country/pop.  After hearing it, I couldn’t help but wonder if Swift would be better off going completely pop.

Many of us know that Taylor is definitely in the confines of country/pop more than any other genre in country music (and some could still argue that.) Her recent sophomore album Fearless just further cemented that. There’s also no doubt that Taylor will be a great songwriter for the next decade and maybe more to come. But the real question is should Taylor ditch all of her country roots and go pop, or should she still stay in the confines of the country/pop genre for now?

Well this is my new blog. As you can see it’s about music. Mostly about music I like. Now I know what you’re thinking. Oh great another one of those “anything I like is important and deserves to be read and viewed by others”, partly true but I really just want this blog to share with you my thoughts about music and hear yours. Now waht genres do I like, mostly country and pop, with some rock influences. I’m in a country/pop and country state right now. So stick along for the ride, it’s sure to be exciting.
